READING

Information for parents

Children are made readers on the laps of their parents.
~ Emilie Buchwald ~

Reading is more than decoding the  words on the page. It is about

  • Developing a love of reading
  • Being invited into new worlds, ideas and information
  • Learning to observe, question, reflect and engage with possibilities and problems
  • Exploring why people read
  • Exploring what different sorts of things we can read
  • Understanding that there are conventions to the way we read
  • Understand that authors and illustrators are sharing information and perspectives with the reader

LEARNING TASKS
